Développement d'un outil novateur pour le dépistage du niveau de conscience de patients non-responsifs: retombées pour la réadaptation

Principal applicant : Stéphanie Blain-Moraes

Team member(s) Eva Kehayia

General objectives

Emerging evidence demonstrates that over 40% of behaviourally unresponsive individuals are misdiagnosed and are considered to be in a state that justifies an attitude described as “therapeutic nihilism”. The goal of this project is to develop, validate, and implement a protocol identifying underlying levels of consciousness in behaviourally unresponsive individuals, as elicited through a language-processing task.

Predicting positive rehabilitation outcomes in coma survivors

Principal applicant : Stéphanie Blain-Moraes

General objectives

One of the most important questions that arises for patients in coma is how to generate an early and accurate prognosis of their outcome. This study aims to develop a prognostic tool for rehabilitation outcomes based upon the responsiveness of the brain network to perturbation in the early days of coma.  Such information would provide rehabilitation professionals a more precise estimation of the patient’s rehabilitation needs, allowing more coordinated medical care and better use of available resources.
