099 Acti-DM1

Development of home assistive technology for people with myotonic dystrophy type 1 aimed at improving muscular and functional capacity

Intervention area

Smart home

Start date

January 1, 2019

End date

August 1, 2020

The main objective of the present mandate is to determine whether assistive technology support during a 12-week home training program improves muscular and functional capacity in people with DM1. Recently, our research team designed and validated a wristband (inertial data collection device) which, thanks to easy access to raw data and the exploitation of artificial intelligence algorithms, enables us to recognize in real time several activities (e.g. walking, standing up, sitting down, staying still) and four specific exercises, with a recognition rate of almost 96.5%. This bracelet is the cornerstone of the assistive technology we want to develop and test.
