The capacity to walk in real life defines a major patient-centric outcome for treating disease or injuries. In this context, step counters have gained in popularity; however, they may inaccurately report steps due to surface features, such as slopes and stairs. The aim of this mandate is to develop an algorithm to accurately report step counts performed on surfaces encountered during daily living, using unobtrusive wearable sensors.
