MIDI-INTER – February 2025 – Your noise, my signal: Diverting physiological signal artifacts for alternative uses
MIDI-INTER – February 13, 2025
Pascal Fortin, researcher, Computer Science and Mathematics Department, Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC)
Working with measurements from physiological sensors is a daunting challenge, due to the many sources of noise that complicate the extraction of the features we’re looking for. Instead of seeing these artifacts as obstacles, my work proposes instead to transform them into opportunities for designing innovative interaction techniques. Through a review of some recent projects, we will reflect together on how it is possible to take advantage of noise and its characteristics, to improve our research protocols as well as the user experience of wearable devices.
