MIDI-INTER – June 2025 – COOK Ma Sécurité a tool to help seniors prepare meals safely
MIDI-INTER – June 17th, 2025
Hubert Ngankam, researcher, Department of informatic, Laboratoire DOMUS, Université de Sherbrooke
COOK is a cognitive orthosis comprising three systems: a cognitive assistance system, an autonomous safety system and a clinician configuration system. COOK is designed to prevent or manage potential critical errors made by the cognitively impaired person, particularly when cooking hot meals. Rehabilitation tools integrated into COOK support the entire meal preparation process. They are selected on the basis of the person’s assessment and enable him or her, for example, to plan the preparation of his or her meal, or to ensure that no step is forgotten during recipe preparation. What’s more, as the person’s environment is equipped with sensors, in the event that a round is forgotten, it will be switched off by the security system. Before doing so, however, the security system sends a notice to the person to correct the situation themselves.
