Muscle-tendon vibration (MTV) is a promising tool for inducing illusions of movement, exploring the mechanisms of proprioception, and supporting motor and speech rehabilitation. However, the neurophysiological mechanisms associated with these illusions remain poorly understood, and the clinical application of MTV remains limited, particularly due to the subjective nature of the illusions and significant interindividual variability.
This presentation offers an overview of Pr Nougarou’s work on the design, validation, and implementation of an innovative musculo-tendinous vibration system, developed for basic research and clinical applications. The following topics will be addressed: the hardware and software development of the device; the study of the induction of simple and complex motion illusions; the development of objective measures based on accessible biosignals (EEG, EMG) coupled with artificial intelligence approaches; as well as the implementation of a clinical acceptability assessment.
By bringing together engineering, human neurophysiology, artificial intelligence, and health sciences, this presentation illustrates an interdisciplinary approach to VMT, aimed at better understanding proprioception and developing practical tools for functional rehabilitation.
