Instrumentation of a hand prosthesis with haptic feedback

Intervention area

Mobility

Start date

April 1, 2014

End date

July 1, 2014

The main objective of the mandate will be to mechanically and electrically integrate the exteroceptive tactile sensor technology and the flexible proprioceptive sensor technology on two fingers (index finger and thumb) of the prosthesis developed at Université Laval. Tests carried out at the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en réadaptation et intégration sociale (CIRRIS) showed that this under-actuated hand, the result of years of work in the field of robotic grippers, could considerably improve the gripping abilities of amputees. By instrumenting this hand and linking it to a haptic device, we can hope to take these grasping skills to a second level.
