Development of a new generation of feeding assistance systems for people with upper limb disabilities – Proof of concept

Intervention area

Mobility

Start date

September 1, 2017

End date

December 1, 2018

The aim of the project is to design and evaluate a new generation of assisted feeding systems based on various robotic and mechatronic principles, to enable individuals with significant upper limb disabilities (spasms, tremors, lack of muscle tone) to feed themselves as autonomously as possible. Through an individual-oriented design process, the technical aid ultimately developed will be an articulated orthosis-type arm that will be attached to a table and manipulated by the user. This system will have the ability to dampen movements in the presence of spasms or tremors.
