Adaptive event-driven rule engine for cognitive assistance during meal preparation in smart homes

Intervention area

Smart home

Start date

February 1, 2026

End date

March 31, 2028

The COOK system (Cognitive Orthosis for coOKing) currently uses detection rules based primarily on fixed temporal thresholds, without consideration of routines, living habits, or situational context. This mandate aims to develop an event-driven rule engine capable of integrating multi-sensor data (current, temperature, movement, sonar, thermal camera) and adapting its decisions based on learned behavioral patterns, ongoing cooking characteristics, and temporal context. The approach will improve rule system flexibility to better match the individual needs of people with cognitive impairments.
